We have released our report on the 2025 long-term water quality ratings for greater Hobart’s beaches and bays. The report revealed some improvements at popular beaches but also some water quality decline at others. Our CEO, Ursula Taylor, has said that while most of the 38 monitored sites maintained stable ratings, the northern end of Blackmans Bay was downgraded from “Good” to “Fair,” highlighting the complexities of managing stormwater and pollution.

Community cooperation is being encouraged by Kingborough Council. We remind everyone to only flush the “3Ps” (poo, pee and paper) to help prevent sewer blockages. Collaborative efforts between local councils, TasWater, and government agencies continue under the 24-year Beach Watch program, with TasWater prioritising infrastructure repairs and regular CCTV monitoring to improve water quality across the region.
