The DEP joins Recycle Rewards

The Derwent Estuary Program has joined Recycle Rewards! We are aiming to raise funds to create Little Penguin burrows and Spotted Handfish spawning habitat.
These are both constructed from ceramics and replicate those found in the natural environment. The Little Penguin burrows provide a safe haven from predators, and the spawning poles, or Artificial Spawning Habitat (ASH) give the Spotted Handfish places to procreate when natural habitat (aquatic plants) are in short supply.
We are asking our community: if you have the capacity to collect and return eligible plastic bottles to a refund point, to please choose to donate your rewards to the Derwent Estuary Program fundraiser. You can donate on the spot using the barcode or the app.
Activities like this are a big part of what makes our work around the Derwent Estuary so important. One of the things we focus on is looking after the estuary and all who call it home—from local people to penguins and fish!
