Windermere Bay project update

And that is a wrap on an incredibly successful project!
On Wednesday 8 July 2026 we officially opened the boardwalk and the milaythina rayakana Palawa cultural saltmarsh trail at the saltmarsh restoration at Windermere Bay in cooperation with Glenorchy City Council. We celebrated with a community planting that saw 22 people plant 300 plants that will buffer and stabilise the saltmarsh.
The Windermere Bay saltmarsh restoration project began twelve months ago when the land was scraped back using large scale excavation equipment to allow the natural, tidal saltmarsh to return. Now, we can see a prevalence of fish, birds and native plants, and it is barely recognisable from what it was.
The restoration project was funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program and we are so proud of the results! It has been incredibly successful and we are very excited to explore opportunities to undertake further restoration projects.
